The weekend picnic in Erzurum ended with a painful tragedy. A young man who wanted to have a pleasant time with his group of friends died by drowning in the pond he entered in Tekederesi, one of the popular recreation areas located approximately 22 kilometers from the city center. Mustafa Çetin, who worked as a cleaning personnel at Erzurum City Hospital, lost his life in the water he entered despite all warnings and died tragically.

He Entered the Water Saying "Take My Image, Let It Be Remembered"

The incident took place at noon in Tekederesi Recreation Area. Mustafa Çetin, who went to the region for a picnic with his friends, did not listen to all the danger warning signs around the pond and the persistent efforts of his friends to prevent it. Deciding to enter the pond to cool off, Çetin turned to his friends just before stepping into the water and said his last words: "Take my image, let it remain a memory." After this tragic sentence, the young man entered the water and, after swimming for a while, started struggling in the suddenly deepening pond and disappeared in a short time.

After his friends noticed the situation and reported it to the authorities, a virtual landing was made in the area. Following the notice, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Gendarmerie Underwater Search and Rescue (JAK), fire brigade and medical teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. While security measures were taken around the pond, expert divers started underwater search and rescue operations without wasting any time.

His lifeless body was found at a depth of 3.5 meters

Gendarmerie underwater search and rescue teams, who carried out a meticulous search for about 50 minutes in the cold and turbid waters of the pond, gave the sad news. Mustafa Çetin's lifeless body was detected approximately 5 meters away from the shore and at a depth of 3.5 meters. The body of the unfortunate young man who was taken out of the water was transferred to the morgue of the Erzurum Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy, after the first examination of the medical teams who were kept ready at the scene. This painful incident once again revealed the dangers of entering ponds and dams in recreation areas.
