Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan chaired the Annual Coordination Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers, held in New York within the framework of the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), within the scope of Turkey's 51st Term Presidency of the Council of Foreign Ministers.

In his speech at the meeting, Minister Fidan discussed Israel's genocidal policies in Gaza, as well as its occupation and annexation activities throughout Palestine and its attacks on Syria and Lebanon. Fidan also made evaluations on various issues that closely concern the Islamic world, especially Iran, Yemen, Libya, Sudan and Somalia, and emphasized the importance of the role played by the OIC in protecting the rights of Muslim minorities and communities.

The OIC Foreign Ministers Coordination Meetings, held every year within the scope of the UN General Assembly week, provide an opportunity for the exchange of views between the Foreign Ministers of the OIC member countries in addition to the official Council of Foreign Ministers (DBK) meeting held once a year. Held once a year, DBK can also hold extraordinary sessions when necessary on important issues concerning the Islamic world, as in summit meetings.

Turkey took over the term presidency with the 51st DBK meeting hosted in Istanbul on 21-22 June 2025, with the theme "The Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Transforming World". At this meeting, two draft resolutions regarding Palestine were adopted and the importance of establishing a common stance on Palestine among the OIC countries was emphasized. At the meeting in question, the Istanbul Declaration was also accepted. Turkey had previously hosted DBK meetings in 1976, 1991 and 2004.
