Stating that offshore wind energy projects are more costly than onshore projects, but the production potential increases thanks to the high capacity factor, Erden said, "While the capacity factor in onshore wind is recorded as 35 percent, the capacity factor in offshore wind is between 45-50 percent. Since more production can be done with higher efficiency, competitive electricity production costs can be achieved despite the high cost." Erden stated that the initial costs of these investments that require high capacity and advanced technology may be high, but these costs will decrease over time as the projects become widespread.
