Innovation Party made an official application to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals on the grounds that the name of the New Party, founded under the chairmanship of Özgül Özel, caused confusion with their own party names. In the petition submitted to the Political Parties Registry Office signed by the Innovation Party's Legal and Electoral Affairs Head and Deputy Chairman Oya Baksı Işık, it was argued that the names of the two parties would cause serious confusion in the eyes of the voters.
In the petition submitted to the Supreme Court, it was stated that the words "New", "Innovation" and "Innovative" were positioned in very close meanings in social perception. It was stated that this situation made it impossible for citizens to distinguish the two parties at the polls or during daily political activities. In the petition, the following remarkable statements were made on the subject: "The citizen on the street cannot distinguish between 'New' and 'Innovation'. There is no other word added to 'New' that the citizen can distinguish. Therefore, it directly evokes 'Innovation'. If our country were England and the language of our country were English, these two words could be easily understood by British citizens. However, since our country is Turkey,
In its application, the Innovation Party did not rely only on linguistic grounds, but also brought a legal precedent decision to the attention of the Supreme Court. In the petition, it was reminded that the application made by the Chairman of the Rising Turkey Party, Duygu Çil Sucuka, on December 19, 2024, to take the name "New Party", was previously rejected by the Supreme Court due to its similarity with the "Innovation Party".
As a result of the request submitted to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals, the Innovation Party management asked for the consistent implementation of the decision made in the past. In the conclusion part of the petition, it was requested that a decision be taken to change the name of the Yeni Party by stating, "Since the name of the party in question reminds us of our Yeni Party, the precedent name change decision you made about another party in 2024 due to its similarity to our party's name should be extended to the Yeni Party in the same way."
