The ties of friendship and cooperation between Türkiye and Brunei Darussalam are moving to a new dimension with strategic steps taken in the fields of defense industry, advanced technology and security. Defense Industry Day, organized to evaluate technological partnership opportunities between the two countries and to open new doors of cooperation, brought together leading companies of the Turkish defense industry, ASELSAN and ASELSAN.NET, and senior military and civilian officials of Brunei.

This historic meeting in the field of defense aims to strengthen the ties between the two friendly countries and breathe new life into the technological ecosystem in the region. While Türkiye's global achievements in aviation and defense attract attention, the autonomous and national solutions of domestic defense industry giants continue to attract the attention of friendly and allied countries. These proving systems also found wide repercussion at the event held in Brunei.

ASELSAN Technologies Showcased in Brunei

At the event, which was held in two comprehensive sessions in Brunei, in the morning and in the afternoon, the superior capabilities of ASELSAN and ASELSAN.NET in the fields of defense, security and civil technology were introduced in detail. The opening speech of the program was made by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Brunei Darussalam, Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoyemphasized the depth of relations between the two countries. Following the opening, ASELSAN representative Göknur Esra Hasbay made a general presentation including the company's global areas of activity and technological competencies.

Critical defense systems were discussed in the military-focused technical presentations of the event. Marine Defense Systems by Umut Erdem Kılınç, Defense Systems Against Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (C-UAS) by Hüseyin Karaybeyli and Base and Border Security Systems by Usame Yusuf Gürbüz were explained to the participants. Additionally, Onur Aykaç gave a comprehensive presentation including ASELSAN.NET's civil and military communication solutions and technological capabilities.

"What Can We Build Together?" Vision

Given a visionary speech at the event, Ambassador Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoy stated that Defense Industry Day should not be seen only as a product promotion platform. Ersoy underlined that this meeting should be the beginning of a new era of cooperation in Turkey-Brunei relations, covering defense technology, innovation and industrial development.

Stating that the relations between Turkey and Brunei are at an excellent level in political, diplomatic, cultural and commercial fields, Ambassador Ersoy argued that cooperation in the defense industry should go beyond the classical "buyer-seller" relationship. The two countries' "What can Türkiye sell to Brunei?" Ersoy said that the focus should be on the perspective of "What can Türkiye and Brunei build together?" instead of the question; He emphasized trust, technology sharing, local capacity building and long-term partnership.

Ambassador Ersoy stated that in addition to technology transfer, joint training programs, internship and engineer exchange projects, joint studies can be carried out in areas such as cyber security, R&D and civilian digital technologies. Stating that Brunei's stable structure and strategic location in the ASEAN region can make the country a regional technology and production center for the Asia-Pacific market, Ersoy stated that this strategic partnership will directly contribute to the Wawasan Brunei 2035 vision, which includes Brunei's sustainable development goals.

Three-Stage Roadmap and Future Vision

Ambassador Ersoy also touched upon the importance of defense technologies in civilian areas; He noted that solutions developed in areas such as cyber security, secure communication, artificial intelligence, software, electronics, sensors, telecommunications and unmanned technologies have a great transformation potential in civilian sectors. Ersoy proposed a concrete three-stage road map for the Turkey-Brunei technology partnership:

Short Term Phase: Rapid identification and procurement of products, systems and services that can meet Brunei's current needs.

Medium Term Phase: Training activities, providing technical maintenance competencies, technology transfer and human resource capacity development.

Long-Term Phase: Joint R&D studies, initiation of local manufacturing processes and making Brunei a regional production base in certain technology areas.

Following the successful presentations on September 15, contacts continued with high-level bilateral meetings held on September 16, 2026. ASELSAN and ASELSAN.NET delegation; He visited the Brunei E-Government National Centre, Cyber Security Brunei and the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) at their headquarters and held in-depth consultations on concrete projects.

Ambassador Ersoy reiterated his call to transform the friendly relations between the two countries into a strong industrial partnership, and concluded his speech with the message "Let's be partners in technology, capability development and joint production in appropriate areas" and thanked the Brunei authorities for their warm hospitality.
