Proudly representing our country in the 2026 ISF (International School Sports Federation) World High School Volleyball Championship hosted by China, Istanbul Sancaktepe Ocean College Girls' Volleyball National Team achieved a historical success by completing the tournament as the second in the world. The young athletes, who brought silver medals to Turkey, received the appreciation of the audience with their superior performance.

An Undefeated Journey to the Finals by Defeating Tough Opponents

The Young Sultans of the Net, who showed a great performance in the giant organization where a total of 32 elite school teams competed fiercely, preserved their undefeated title by leaving the court with victories against Georgia, Denmark, China Macau and Belgium in the group stage. Our national team, which eliminated the Greek Cypriot side of Southern Cyprus in the quarter-final match, defeated the host China in front of its own fans in the semi-final and put its name in the final with golden letters.

Faceting Chinese Taipei in the final match, which was a great excitement, the Ocean College Girls' Volleyball National Team lost the head-to-head match 3-1 and ended the tournament with the title of second in the world. Representing Turkey in the men's category in the same championship, TVF Sports High School Men's Volleyball National Team won the gold medal as the world champion. Thus, Turkey achieved a historic double victory by completing the organization with the world second place in girls and the world championship in men.

"We are the first Turkish Girls' School Team to advance to the finals since 2016"

The Istanbul Sancaktepe Ocean College team, which returned home as the second in the world, was welcomed with flowers and enthusiastic applause by their families, teachers, school administrators and many sports fans at Istanbul Airport. Making a statement at the airport, Ocean College Girls' National Volleyball Team Head Coach Hüseyin Doğanyüz emphasized that two years of serious effort were behind this success.

Doğanyüz said, "We have been preparing for this tournament non-stop for two years. We showed very resilient games against the strongest teams in the world throughout the championship. It was very meaningful for us to beat our strong rival China, especially in the semi-finals, in front of its own audience. We are proud of being the first Turkish girls' school team to reach the finals in this tournament since 2016. This success is due to the vision of Ekonomi College blending sports with academic education and the cooperation of Eczacıbaşı Sports Club "It is the best fruit of the exemplary cooperation we have achieved. Of course, our hearts were in favor of the world championship; our small mistakes in the final determined the score. However, being second in the world is also extremely valuable for our country. Our goal will definitely be the gold medal in the championship two years later."

Shared Success of Education and Sports: 15-Year Vision

Okyanus Colleges Sports Director İbrahim Cengiz stated that this global success was not a coincidence, but was the result of a planned work lasting many years. Cengiz said, "It is an indescribable honor for us to be on the World Championship podium. We have been implementing a special model that integrates education and sports for about 15 years. Thanks to our collaborations with leading sports clubs across Turkey, we ensure that our students reach the top in both their classes and sports careers."

Reminding that they were playing without some of their important players due to the intensity of the club calendar, İbrahim Cengiz said, "This is our eighth participation in the World Championship. To date, we have won six world championships, two world second places, one world third place and numerous Turkish championships for our museum. Despite our shortcomings, our team showed great dedication on the field. We would like to thank our Ministry of Youth and Sports, our founder Orhan Özbey, our school administrators, our technical team, our parents and our biggest stakeholder, for their unwavering support. Captain Zeynep Penelope Darnel: "Our target is the Turkish Championship"

The leader and captain of the team Zeynep Penelope Darnel also stated that the degree they achieved was a great source of motivation for them. Darnel said, "We are very happy and proud. It was a great feeling to represent our country and school on such a big stage. We wanted to be the champion very much, but being second in the world is an achievement that cannot be ignored. We went through a very long and tiring preparation period and gained great experience here. We would like to thank our families, teachers and coaches who supported us at all times.
