Aydın Hasan / Asena Yatağan - The defense industry forum, which has been designed as a side event in recent years in order to increase the defense capacity of NATO allies and strengthen their strategic cooperation, was held for the first time as one of the main elements of the official program together with the Ankara Summit. This historic summit, to which global defense corridors have turned their attention, opened its doors at ATO Congresium as of 10:00 yesterday.

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, in his speech at the forum, stated that it has become inevitable to build a stronger European pillar within NATO at a time when global geopolitical risks are increasing. A strong and durable Euro-Atlantic security is possible with an architecture that can combine production power, technological know-how and operational experience towards a single strategic goal. Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, in his speech, touched upon the importance of sustainable production and readiness in the defense industry. Emphasizing that especially ammunition production is the most critical topic for the allies, Güler warned that establishing a supply chain in times of crisis may cause delays.

Minister Güler said, "Our main duty is to continuously build this culture of joint cooperation during peacetime. After a crisis breaks out, it may be too late to try to establish new production lines, create a supply chain or determine common standards. We must complete our preparations in this direction today. Our call is extremely clear: We must turn our commitments into concrete capabilities, our financial resources into production, and our industrial power into a strong deterrent."

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte referred to the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by making an analogy from the world of sports in his speech. Presidential Defense Industry (SSB) President Haluk Görgün stated that the forum was extremely productive and that they made critical contacts on joint production, supply chain security and technological cooperation. Görgün emphasized that Turkey will continue to resolutely contribute to NATO's common deterrence vision with its high technology capabilities.

As part of the forum, three major multinational procurement projects that will increase NATO's air defense, surveillance and logistics capabilities were announced. In this context, it was reported that the 10th Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft planned for the Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Aircraft Fleet will be delivered soon. In addition, while a new multinational cooperation project for Airbus A400M Atlas aircraft has been launched, the joint procurement processes of 5 MQ-4C Triton unmanned aerial vehicles and 10 Saab GlobalEye aircraft for airspace control of allied countries have been officially launched.
