Türkiye's first deep-sea drilling effort outside its maritime borders, energy exploration activities off the coast of Somalia, is well ahead of the targeted schedule. In his special statement to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), Somali Petroleum Authority General Manager Abdulkadir Adan gave good news that the drilling operations carried out by the Turkish teams are progressing with great success and that the operation, which is expected to be completed in October under normal conditions, can be completed by the end of September. Adan shared his statements about this important development with the public on the social media platform X.

Somali Petroleum Authority General Manager Abdulkadir Adan touched upon the details of the technical operation carried out and gave the information: "A depth of approximately 3 thousand meters has been reached so far in the drilling." Adan stated that if the work maintains its current high tempo, the completion date, which was initially targeted for October, could be brought forward by about a month, and emphasized that there is a strong possibility that the operation will be completed successfully by the end of September.

The 7th generation ultra-deepwater drilling ship Çağrı Bey, one of the most powerful members of Türkiye's new generation energy fleet, continues its work uninterruptedly in the Curad-1 well, located approximately 370 kilometers off Mogadishu. In the project, where approximately 4 thousand meters of drilling is planned from the sea floor, it is aimed to reach a final depth of 7 thousand 500 meters from the sea surface downwards. This gigantic operation is written in golden letters in Turkish maritime and energy history as the first deep-sea exploration drilling carried out by the Republic of Turkey outside its own territorial waters.

In this critical mission beyond the borders of the Blue Homeland, security and technical standards are kept at the highest level. General Manager Adan underlined that there have been no occupational accidents or serious technical disruptions throughout the drilling process. A huge human resource works in the background of the giant operation. A total of 470 to 480 personnel are employed on drilling and support ships. Oruç Reis' Success Story from Seismic Data to Drilling Stage

The foundations of the strategic partnership between Türkiye and Somalia in the field of energy were laid with the intergovernmental agreement and memorandum of understanding signed on March 7, 2024. This cooperation was taken to a further level with the production sharing agreement signed in July 2024 for 3 different blocks in the Somali maritime area. Oruç Reis Seismic Research Ship, which was dispatched to the region immediately after the agreement, successfully carried out three-dimensional seismic data collection studies in a large area of 4 thousand 464 square kilometers in 3 separate blocks.

After approximately 7 months of meticulous data analysis, the decision was made to drill in the Curad-1 location, which was determined to have the highest potential. The 228-meter-long Çağrı Bey, selected for this mission and built in South Korea in 2024, has the ability to drill to a depth of 12 thousand meters.
