Mithat Yurdakul - Türkiye is taking an important step within the scope of renewable energy strategies and turning to investments in offshore wind power plants. The four regions identified off the coast of Saros Gulf, Gökçeada, Bozcaada and Edremit are among the candidate areas to be invested in this area. The specification process for Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) competitions has also been initiated.
First Steps for Offshore Wind Power Plants
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources continues its preparations for Türkiye's first large-scale offshore wind energy investment. In this context, the usage right for 1 gigawatt offshore wind connection capacity was determined as 49 years, while the construction period of the power plants was determined as a maximum of 3 years from the license acquisition.
In the competitions, the ceiling price for electricity purchase was announced as 11 cents/kilowatt hour, and the base price was announced as 7 cents/kilowatt hour. Strategic Regions and Planning

Within the scope of the study, criteria such as protected areas, fish migration routes and international maritime transportation corridors were taken into consideration. Although such projects are more costly compared to terrestrial projects, they provide more energy production thanks to highly efficient and continuous wind currents. While the total investment size for Türkiye's 5 gigawatt investment target set by 2035 is calculated as approximately 15 billion dollars, 2.5-3 billion dollars of resources will be required for the annual installation of 1 gigawatt.
2030 Targets and Economic Impacts
Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) President İbrahim Erden stated that offshore wind energy will provide a strategic transformation. Turkey aims to increase energy diversity and expand the share of renewable resources with offshore wind energy investments. These steps will increase the country's energy independence within the framework of sustainable energy policies and contribute to economic growth.
