National athlete and freediving world record holder Şahika Ercümen was at the Freediving Sea Open Water Seniors and Masters Individual Turkey Championship and National Team Trials held between 23-26 July 2026. The famous athlete completed the organization with two gold medals with his outstanding performance and once again became the champion of Turkey.

The national athlete said, "I am very happy for our gold medals. I did not push my limits in this organization because we had to compete 4 days in a row. After securing the championship, I focused on using my strength in the most efficient way. I would like to thank everyone who supported me.", signaling that he maintains his energy for the big goals ahead.

A total of 22 licensed athletes participated in the prestigious organization that brought together Türkiye's most talented and successful freediving athletes. The competitions on the third day of the championship, which witnessed the fierce competition of the athletes and was planned to last 4 days, had to be canceled for security reasons due to the adverse weather conditions in the region.
