Producers in Aydın, which alone meets a large portion of the world's dried fig needs, demand that prices be announced as soon as possible in order not to be crushed under increasing input costs. While sector representatives state that purchases in the free market started at the 220 lira band, the producer's minimum expectation this season is shaping up to be 300 lira.

Reminding that figs are the producers' only source of income, Ülgdür said, "Input prices and cost increases are obvious. Everyone can calculate this very easily. On the other hand, since the prices have not yet become official and the market is not settled, our producers prefer to entrust their products to Tariş by making a yield declaration."

Aydın Germencik Chamber of Agriculture President Şahabettin Çapakçıoğlu also stated that the fact that official purchases have not started yet and price uncertainty have brought producers to the brink of a difficult process. Stating that exporter demand is essential for the revival of the market, Çapakçıoğlu said, "The exporter will demand that the trader go to the producer for purchase. However, there is no desired activity in the market at the moment. We will definitely not allow the prices to be brought down. Because this year, we have obtained the best quality dried fig crop of recent years. Our producer must be compensated for the sweat and expenses he has spent."
